Hino Motors is set to undertake a comprehensive redesign of the body of its flagship large tourist bus, the Selega, with a planned launch in spring 2026. This update marks the first significant overhaul of the model since its debut in 2005, making it approximately 20 years since the last major change.
While the new Selega will feature a completely new body design, it will retain key elements that define its current image. The redesign emphasizes a modern aesthetic while maintaining the distinctive features that have garnered customer support over the years.
On September 18, 2025, Hino Motors announced the vehicles that will be showcased at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show 2025 (JMS2025), scheduled for October. Among these, the Selega is a highlight due to its significant redesign.
The Selega is produced by J-Bus, a joint venture between Hino Motors and Isuzu Motors. The current second-generation model was introduced in 2005, with Isuzu selling a sister version called the Gala. The existing design is characterized by its flowing curves, with notable features such as the accent pillar extending from the front grille to the side, and three vertically aligned taillights—elements inspired by European styling. Since its launch, the Selega has been well-received, even winning the Good Design Award in its debut year.
The new Selega is scheduled to be launched in spring 2026. Its first public appearance will be at JMS2025, taking place from October 30 to November 9, 2025. During the event, Hino Motors will also unveil the concept vehicle "Poncho Dot," alongside upcoming models such as the "Dutro Z EV" and "Ranger," which are slated for release in 2026.
Stay tuned! We will bring you more information and photos of vehicles from the Japan Mobility Show 2025 as the event approaches.
